There are numerous victims reported in a mass shooting that happened Thursday afternoon at a factory in the western Maryland town of Smithsburg, with unofficial reports of casualties. The Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported the shooter is “no longer a hazard.”

On June 9, 2022, at roughly 2: 30 PM, deputies from the Washington County Sheriff’s Office reacted to the 12900 block of Bikle Road, Smithsburg, MD, in recommendation to a shooting.

At this time the Sheriff’s Office can verify that there are several victims and the suspect is no longer a hazard to the neighborhood.
This is a quickly developing occurrence and we will launch details as we are able.

A video taken near the scene consists of the noise of shooting (and a great deal of cussing.)

And another video from the witness states the shooter was apprehended and most likely shot. The witness states the suspect was driving a cars and truck and crashed into a police vehicle obstructing the roadway. The suspect opened fire on cops who returned fire. The shooting exchange can be heard in the above video.

UPDATE: Maryland Governor Larry Hogan stated 3 individuals were eliminated, a State Trooper was shot in the shoulder and had the ability to return fire on the suspect. Hogan stated he does not understand the status of the suspect.
