HEIDI PRZYBYLA: I talked with a great deal of specialists on this and I have actually seen it with my reporting, Michael, which is that the base of the Republican Party has actually moved. Keep in mind when Trump ran in 2016, a great deal of the mainline evangelicals desired absolutely nothing to do with the separated realty magnate who cheated on his other half with a pornography star, and all of that.
So what took place was that he was surrounded by this more extremist component. We are going to hear words like Christian nationalism, like the “brand-new apostolic reformation.” These are groups that you must get extremely schooled on due to the fact that they have a great deal of power in Trump’s circle. And the something that unifies all of them due to the fact that there’s various groups orbiting Trump.
But the important things that unifies them as Christian nationalists, not Christians since Christian nationalists are extremely various, is that they think that our rights as Americans and as all humans do not originate from any Earthly authority. They do not originate from Congress, from the Supreme Court, they originate from God. The issue with that is that they are figuring out, guys, are identifying what God is informing them. In the past, that so-called “natural law,” it is a pillar of catholicism for example, it has actually been utilized for excellent in social justice projects. Martin Luther King stimulated it in speaking about civil liberties.
