Over 2,000 individuals are reported to be dead after a magnitude 6.3 earthquake struck Afghanistan on Saturday.
The largely inhabited location near Herat was the hardest hit.
The quake was followed by aftershocks determining magnitude 6.3, 5.9, and 5.5, and some lower shocks.
Rescue employees and volunteers were digging through the debris with shovels and their hands attempting to pull individuals from the wreckage on Sunday.
” Entire towns were flattened, bodies were caught under collapsed homes and residents awaited assistance without even shovels to dig individuals out,” the Associated Press reports “Living and dead, victims were caught under debris, their faces grey with dust.”
At least 1,300 houses were likewise damaged in the natural catastrophe.
” Most individuals were stunned … some could not even talk. There were others who could not stop sobbing and screaming,” professional photographer Omid Haqjoo, who checked out 4 towns Sunday, informed The Associated Press.
