Photos taken at the scene reveal a modest sized crater at the Canal Park ice skating rink with a close-by glass barrier burnt out. No injuries were reported, however nerves were shaken throughout much of the location.

The very first eyewitness report was of vehicle alarms going off and individuals fleing after a surge was heard, “Explosion in navy lawn? … Car alarms going off. Saw a couple of individuals fleing from canal park towards New Jersey Ave”

Video taken minutes after the surge reveals smoke increasing and automobile alarms sounding.

Photos from the scene reveal damage relatively incongruous with the volume of the surge.

A huge firecracker according to firefighters:

D.C. Fire and EMS reported, “Box Alarm 3rd & & L St SE for surge heard and possible structure fire. Systems on scene at skating rink where there is a haze and damaged glass. No indication of fire. Examining even more.”

The surge was loud adequate to be heard and felt throughout DC.

” Explosion in Navy Yard location. Uncertain cause. My home is practically 2 miles from there and I heard this loud and clear– even felt some shockwave. Need to have been scary at the scene.”

” That loud surge heard and felt for numerous blocks in and beyond the Navy Yard community was something that left a hole in the ice and damaged glass at the Canal Park ice rink. Authorities simply taped off the location.”

Good concern. “At what point does a firecracker end up being a bomb?”

Maybe the FBI was doing some field training for the next J6 pipeline bomb occasion?

UPDATE: D.C. cops declaration: “Alert: MPD reacted to a report of a loud surge in the park in the 200 blk of M St SE.
