The English language is interesting.

The idioms and metaphors are many and varied. Translators have told me they love studying the English language.

In this vein, let me suggest that the language today is critical to politics.

Some will ask, “What’s the use of writing articles, the POLS are going to do what they want anyway?”

That question fails to reckon with the historic weight and victory that the “pen” has brought to many political conflicts.

In fact, in our Revolution against the tyranny of England, the mighty “pen” was critical to the initiation and the ultimate freedom.

Look at these historical references to the “pen’s” effectiveness.

These are found in a good article on the “Interesting Literature” site.

  • The phrase came about in 1839 when it was invented by a nineteenth-century writer named Sir Edward Bulwer-Lytton (1803-1873), in a play about Cardinal Richelieu. In Richelieu (1839), Bulwer-Lytton has the eponymous cardinal declare:
  • Beneath the rule of men entirely great, The pen is mightier than the sword.
  • Cicero, in his De Officiis (44 BC), declares ‘cedant arma togae‘, which roughly translates as ‘arms give way to persuasion’.
  • George Whetstone, in part iii of his Heptameron of Civil Discourses, writes, ‘The dashe of a Pen, is more greeuous then the counter use of a Launce.’
  • In his 1712 poem ‘The Eagle and the Robin‘, William King wrote that ‘now and then, / A sword less hurt does than a pen.’
  • The Epistle to the Hebrews, 4: 12: ‘For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.’
  • 19 June 1792, Thomas Jefferson wrote to Thomas Paine – ‘Go on then in doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword.’
  • Bulwer-Lytton’s phrase adorns the walls of the school where Tom Sawyer studies, in one of the original illustrations to Mark Twain’s 1876 novel.

With these historic points in mind, let me urge you to make use of the “pen” as it cuts through the bonds of tyranny that seek to restrict and eventually erase the individual freedoms of our nation! Such IS NOT an endeavor in vain!

A recent post illustrates this point. Please read and pass along!

The God-given freedoms that initiated and undergirded our Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights and US Constitution, are constantly under attack. The “pen” must expose the evil attackers and remind all of the foundations of our freedom!

Be sure to read the post and follow the link to the entire issue of Kelly Walker’s FREEDOM TALK online magazine.

Do not surrender your thoughts to the “group think” of evil! God’s expectations are clear:  “We are destroying arguments and all arrogance raised against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, and we are ready to punish all disobedience” (2 Corinthians 10:5-6).

Now is NOT the time to sit back inactive. Now is the time to step up and contact your Congressional delegation and voice your strong concerns that our nation’s freedoms and historic legacy as “one nation under God” is being erased by the political Elite (perhaps even more tyrannical than King George!) and the entrenched bureaucrats in D.C.

Your personal freedom, the freedom of your children and grandchildren, the freedom of every law-abiding citizen, MUST be upheld and defended! YOU are positioned for this critical task—do not shrug off this duty.

Stay in constant contact with your elected US Representatives and Senators. Demand accountability from those representing your will! This is your civic and religious duty.
