On Monday, Senator Mike Lee announced that the confirmation hearing for Trump’s Interior Secretary pick, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, has been postponed.
Burgum’s hearing was postponed for two days after the Office of Government Ethics (OGE) claimed he was missing paperwork.
According to Senator Mike Lee, Burgum “promptly” submitted his paperwork, but the OGE has yet to complete its review.
On Monday, Democrats on the Senate Energy Panel called for Burgum’s confirmation hearing to be delayed at least a week.
“Governor Doug Burgum has been fully cooperative throughout the confirmation process, promptly submitting his paperwork to the Office of Government Ethics,” Mike Lee wrote in a statement. “Despite his compliance and the Energy and Natural Resources Committee noticing the hearing in accordance with all rules, OGE has yet to complete its review. This bureaucratic delay is unacceptable.”
“To ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of this process, the committee will postpone Governor Burgum’s hearing until Thursday,” Mike Lee said. “However, we expect OGE to act with urgency and complete its review without further unnecessary delays.”
Earlier Monday, the confirmation hearing for Trump’s Veterans Affairs Secretary Doug Collins was postponed after the FBI slow-rolled its customary background check.
“Hearing for VA Sec nominee Collins postponed. VA Cmte chair Moran: Congressman Doug Collins has submitted all his paperwork in a timely manner and has been transparent and forthcoming with the committee..At this time, the FBI has not completed its customary background check of Congressman Collins. In accordance with long-standing practice, the committee should have an opportunity to review Congressman Collins’ FBI file before the confirmation hearing. I expect the FBI to complete its review quickly so that the committee can move forward with its role of evaluating the President’s nominee,” Fox News Congress reporter Chad Pergram said on Monday.
Last week, it was reported that Senate Democrats secretly sabotaged Tulsi Gabbard’s confirmation by claiming that she had not provided enough “vetting materials.”
President Trump nominated Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence and the Democrats are sabotaging her confirmation hearing.
Trump warned of this sabotage late last month.
