Growing up as a kid in Florida (like lots of other kids) I imagined being on the Disney Channel, particularly on That’s So Raven. It was my preferred program & & Raven Baxter was my buddy in my mind. It was my escape from what I was going through internally. Originating from a common Puerto Rican household, I didn’t believe being a star was possible esp for somebody like me, I believed you needed to be born into that world. Quick forward to ending up being a star I then informed myself I wasn’t young adequate to be on Disney any longer & & even if that wasn’t the case I’m TRANS! I ‘d never ever seen an out trans star or character on the Disney Channel. EVER. Needless to state I sobbed in my dressing space after strolling onto that set the very first time. It was a minute where it struck me that I not just get to live out my youth dream on a variation of my preferred program … I get to do it as my genuine self and with a character that is honestly trans. It was truly more than simply being on the program. With all of the anti-trans hate and stories in media and society, it was a win. I declared a dream and area for myself while a lot of the world is attempting to remove me & & my neighborhood. And now I get to be that individual I want I needed to view on television maturing. Never ever inform yourself it can’t take place since it can, in methods you never ever dreamt possible.
