J6 prisoner Julio Baquero, on right, was denied medical treatment for his cancer and died weeks after his release from prison. God bless this American patriot.

I had the privilege of meeting Julio Baquero in Federal Prison at FCI Miami, where we were both sent to serve out our sentences for January 6th.

Julio was a very kind, soft-spoken man. His love for his country ran almost as deep for his three young children and his high school sweet heart, Amy. The mother of his children.

Julio and I immediately bonded over our patriotism and love for country music. Julio was sentenced to 18 months in Federal Prison.

His charges were trespassing and disorderly conduct. He walked in the capitol as the doors were being held open by Capitol Police.

At one point, Julio simply put his hand up to block a Police Officers’ baton that the officer pushed into his face.

None other than Matthew Graves, DC, District Attorney, indicted Julio. Threatened with over 15 years in prison, Julio was forced to take a plea.

This is the same D.A. that gave 48 hours of community service to a Pro-Hamas Protestor that punched a female Capitol Police officer…in the face. But Julio, being a Trump supporter received 18 months for essentially trespassing.

Julio like many of us J6ers, was using this time as a Political Prisoner to better himself. We read Thomas Paine’s “Common Sense”, committed to getting other inmates to read the Constitution, we shared other books and compared notes, and read the Bible. Julio was working out on the Rec Yard sometimes 2 or 3 times a day.

His consistent commitment to self-improvement would take a tragic turn when one day Juilo showed me his stomach and a lump that came along with severe pain that began to develop. He thought that it could have been a hernia.

Julio made several attempts to seek medical care from the doctor at FCI Miami. Sending out several requests to be seen to no avail, Julio was left months unattended to by the Doctor in charge, only given Pepto-Bismol.

Finally, after over 2 months of being mostly ignored, an officer who had a heart, saw Julio vomiting uncontrollably in his cell while the officer was doing his evening shift head count. He unlocked the cell and escorted Julio to the medical building. It was only then he was sent to the hospital.

About 1 week later, I had a call with my fiancée who had been in touch with Julio’s fiancée. Amy had not heard from Julio in about a week and was worried sick.

She wanted to know if I could go to his unit and find out what was going on. I arrived at Julio’s unit to find out that he had been taken to the hospital.

I was able to get some info from a case manager that he was in the hospital and it did not look good. It would be a month, before I would see Julio return back to FCI Miami. Weak, sick, and 20 pounds lighter, I could tell by the look on his face that the outcome was not good.

We hugged and he told me the deal. He was diagnosed with Stage 4 gastric cancer. And on top of that, FCI Miami, the BOP was not willing to let him go on Compassionate Release, even though he was set to be released two months later anyway.

Fortunately, his lawyer got the DOJ to agree and a Compassionate Release was granted a few weeks later. However, that was more critical time lost for treatment at the hands of the incompetent doctor at FCI Miami. He received no treatment at all from him personally.

Julio would be released straight home but would be admitted to the hospital where it was too late. He was too far along to respond to treatment. And on Father’s Day, in the hospital, Julio would pass away, leaving behind 3 children, the love of his life, and a mother lost a son.

This will be the first Christmas Juilo’s family will be having without a father.

If FCI Miami had responded sooner, would we still have this Patriot? It’s a question that we are left asking. And his family will never have an answer to it.
