A Saudi court sentenced retired instructor Muhammad al-Ghamdi, 54, to death over 5 tweets slamming corruption and human rights offenses.

According to Human Rights Watch, Muhammad al-Ghamdi was jailed in 2015 and offered little access to a legal representative prior to his conviction in July “under post 30 of Saudi Arabia’s counterterrorism law for ‘explaining the King or the Crown Prince in such a way that weakens faith or justice,’ post 34 for ‘supporting a terrorist ideology,’ short article 43 for ‘interaction with a terrorist entity,’ and post 44 for releasing incorrect news ‘with the objective of carrying out a terrorist criminal activity.'”

Tweets, retweets, and YouTube activity were all utilized as proof to convict him.
